Two Questions / Update from Justin
1. Biggest influence go: My biggest artistic influence would probably be M dot Strange because he created a masterpiece for a younger generation in a way that has never really been done before; not to mention he did it all by himself. I find it very inspiring that the ability to make great animations that squirt colors and sounds out like technologic orgasms can be made without the backing of corporations who have lots of cash who want to take over the world. Hopefully the future wont contain so many shitty youtube videos, but who can say. Its nice to know that if you can create the right piece you can change the world overnight by posting it online.
2. Who from class has influenced me the most?
Nam June Paik’s work has always been really appealing to me. So it was a real treat to see a short documentary on him. I think what he said about art being boring because tv and films at the time were so interesting and exciting is no longer valid. I think that hollywood films, and especially t.v. are both at an all time low. Which means art, animation, and video should be exciting or at least have strong purpose if not to motivate people, then to make an impression of sort. I think Nam June’s work was and still is some of the most inventive and creative work of the entire history of video, and i dont think many would argue.
Im a big fan of performance poetry and this guy has such smooth rhythm i had to put it up
This was one of my final projects during my first semester at VCU. The assignment was to do an unconventional drawing; my intention was to become a drawing myself.
